Do not be afraid….
I am your shield,
your very great reward.
Genesis 15:1
God is not only our shield, He is also our very great reward. Notice that He did not say He would give Abram a very great reward, rather He is the great reward. Those who know Him and abide with Him have the most wonderful blessing, the great reward of the God of all creation participating in their lives.
What more could we want? What greater reward could there be than experiencing a love relationship with the Lord God who is the creator of the Heavens and the Earth? We are More >

“Courage is not simply one of the virtues, but the form of every virtue at the testing point.” C. S. Lewis
This past weekend we went to see the movie “Courageous,” and I can’t stop thinking about it. I was immediately impressed with the excellence in which it was produced, directed and performed. The message was powerful. The story is about five men who made a commitment to live with integrity and responsibility toward God and their families. They learned quickly that this commitment takes courage and strength to live out in the midst of their daily struggles. Although this movie More >
Dare to Hope
Sep 17th
During the difficult times in my life I have found great encouragement from reading the words of the Old Testament prophet Jeremiah, who is known as the “weeping prophet.” Can you believe that? Encouragement from the weeping prophet! But I think you will be encouraged too. As Jeremiah grieved over the destruction of Jerusalem, he turned his eyes toward the day-to-day faithfulness of the Lord. Notice how Jeremiah’s discouragement turns into words of hope:
The thought of my suffering and homelessness
is bitter beyond words.
I will never forget this awful time,
as I grieve over my loss.
Yet I still dare to hope
when I More >
Major Mess in the Middle of God’s Will
Sep 11th
Have you ever thought you were following God’s guidance or leading and you found yourself in a real mess of a situation? It can tend to make you want to doubt God and question His work in your life. Did I really follow God’s direction? Does He really care about my situation? Why would God allow this to happen to me if I am following His will? The questions are valid, yet God often allows the difficulties in our lives for a greater purpose. He will not leave us in the midst of our troubles. The important thing is for More >

Texas Wildfires
This past week we had the sad experience of observing the wildfires in Texas firsthand. We watched from our family cottage in Spicewood as fires flared up from as close to 350 yards away. We are safe, but many in the area’s surrounding Austin have lost everything they own. Our prayers and support are with the multitude of victims from the fire. In my book Thrive, Don’t Simply Survive, I address the issue of trusting God even when life seems to fall apart. May this short excerpt serve as an encouragement to those who need inspiration at this hour. More >
The Great I Am
Aug 26th
God said to Moses, “I AM WHO I AM.
Exodus 3:14
God is the only one who can claim, “I Am who I Am.” This powerful declaration points to God’s own self-existence. He has always been, He is and He will be forever. No one created Him for He has existed for ever. As Tozer put it, “He is the Great Original.”[i] The fact that He has always existed, distinguishes Him as God, and reminds us that we are not. He has no origin. We, the created, have a beginning. We may find it nearly impossible to comprehend the thought of the More >
Fighting Feelings of Inadequacy
Aug 14th
Travel with me back to the Old Testament. The place is Mount Sinai, which the Bible calls themountainofGod. Moses draws close to a burning bush, and there he encounters a holy God. God directs Moses to go back toEgypt, talk to Pharaoh, and lead the Israelites out ofEgypt. What was Moses’ response? “Who am I to appear before Pharaoh? Who am I to lead the people ofIsraelout ofEgypt?” God reassuringly answers him, “I will be with you.”3

Worry Dominating Your Thoughts?
Aug 7th
Worry is a thin stream of fear trickling though the mind.
If encouraged, it cuts a channel into which
all other thoughts are drained.
—Arthur Somers Roche
The Dominating Thoughts of Worry
The recent economic news can invite worry to dominate our thinking. Worry is an anxious and fretful state of mind built on assumptions about what could happen in a given situation. Let’s not confuse responsibility with worry. Responsibility is a healthy concern about circumstances or situations that leads to positive steps of action. Responsibility and careful planning grow into anxiety when fear dominates our thoughts. As we face fresh challenges in More >
