During the difficult times in my life I have found great encouragement from reading the words of the Old Testament prophet Jeremiah, who is known as the “weeping prophet.” Can you believe that? Encouragement from the weeping prophet! But I think you will be encouraged too. As Jeremiah grieved over the destruction of Jerusalem, he turned his eyes toward the day-to-day faithfulness of the Lord. Notice how Jeremiah’s discouragement turns into words of hope:
The thought of my suffering and homelessness
is bitter beyond words.
I will never forget this awful time,
as I grieve over my loss.

Rain in Florida
Less than a week ago I boarded the plane with my daughter as we looked forward to a few days of relaxation and sunshine in Florida at the beach. Soon after we arrived it began to rain, and it continued to gush and pour for the next 24 hours. On the second morning of torrential downpours my hope for sunshine had diminished into the reality that we were facing another day of disappointment and change in plans.
