Disappointment Redeemed

I'm so disappointed in you.A knife pierced my 12 year old heart.  My mother had the power to reduce my foolishness with only that phrase. With only a disproving look and those quietly spoken words, I was reduced to shame.  Couldn't she have just spanked me and gotten it over with? A quick kapow to the bum would have been less painful than the "disappointment speech".As a parent to a young adult, I too, know what it is to be disappointed in my child's decisions.  I understand how it hurts to hear of his wayward choices that he calls fun.  I know the More >

Purpose and Passion

Every morning I read Spurgeon?s Morning and Evening Devotional. The following entry truly strengthened me and helped me realize my purpose here on this earth. I hope it will be meaningful to you as well.

F God had willed it, each of us might have entered heaven at the moment of conversion. It was not absolutely necessary for our preparation for immortality that we should tarry here. It is possible for a man to be taken to heaven, and to be found meet to be a partaker of the inheritance of the saints in light, though he has but just believed More >

Alternate title for this post? When What You’re Supposed to Do Makes You Feel Like a Scaredy Cat Who Wants to Please Everybody.

I’ve been writing more regularly for a couple years now. And often while writing, I still see a room full of imaginary people rolling their eyes at me. I see that facebook friend I haven’t spoke with since high school whispering. I see the distant family member laughing over all the awkward things younger me did. I see the close by friend shaking her head with a who-does-she-think-she-is look. They all tell me I’m empty of talent and More >

I look at her surprised when she says ‘no’ to riding the roller coaster. After all, she flies on her bike, hangs like a monkey off her swing set, and generally prefers being upside down instead of right side up. She loves adventure, activity, and anything that involves lots of movement.

But then again, I don’t super love those twisty-bendy-my-stomach-has-now-exited-my-body good time mobiles myself. I will ride them so I’m not a fuddy duddy mama. And as long as I don’t feel like throwing up at the end, I usually have fun doing so. But I’ve ridden many more as a More >

A Disney Kind of Day

We hath returneth from our Disney World vacation where a good time was had by all. It’s an interesting thing, tootling around Disney. For a good while, it seems like this place is Happyville on steroids, everyone waving big and throwing enthusiastic, “Have a Disney kind of day!” to kids and grown-ups alike. Children stand slack jawed trying to decide if roller coasters or endless treats deserve their attention first. No matter which park you go to, the grounds are squeaky clean, the air fragrant with good smells, and the environment alive with boosted color. I’m not immune to the pizazz More >

The Lord is my inheritance; therefore, I will hope in him!

Lamentations 3:24 NLT

??????????? When the prophet Jeremiah found himself at one of the lowest points in his life, there was one thought that gave him hope.? He remembered, ?The faithful love of the Lord never ends!?His mercies never cease. Great is his faithfulness;?his mercies begin afresh each morning.?[i] When all else was gone, Jeremiah knew that no one could talk away the Lord. God was his portion, his share, his inheritance.

An inheritance was very important to the people of Israel. As the Promise Land was divided by portions to the Israelite More >
